Since this is our inaugural blog, we feel comfortably justified talking about whatever we’re just really into, and the Shinola brand makes the short list. Shinola hits all the right buttons: It’s made in America. It’s made in Detroit. It celebrates craftsmanship (leather tooling, metal work, sophisticated workmanship such as watch-making. Watch-making. In America.) It resuscitates a defunct American brand better known as a punch line. Its marketing is visually stunning. And it greatly contributed to the revitalization and re-emergence of Detroit as a city known for more than bankruptcy and a dying car industry (granted, millions of $$$ in Chrysler’s Super Bowl ads helped, but still . . .).
I’m a fan: I like the products, I like the story, I admire the storytelling. AdWeek ran a brand review earlier this year.
