She Wanted to Dance
My favorite indie filmmaker Daria Kobayashi Ritch has done it again - this time with a smart and sexy short film featuring three glam babes and a mysterious suitcase. The plot is not really the point though. The film is really an opportunity to showcase light, beauty, and Los Angeles.
Oyster magazine quotes Daria, "Godard said 'All you need for a movie is a girl and a gun.' I think we started this film with a nod to old Hollywood heist films. We didn't want it to be taken seriously and in fact were poking fun at such a classic and over done concept....SWTD is about objects of desire and the paths we take to attain them and how those expectations often supersede reality."
Daria shoots on 16mm film and kept the camera handheld for most of the film. Her brother Aron Kobayashi Ritch handled the sound design, and wrote, performed, and engineered the music with his friend, Sebastian Jones. Check out the article in Oyster magazine here.
